We email each other links to user interfaces or bits and pieces of user interfaces that we encounter that we find intriguing or especially useful. We start sentences with "You know what would be really great here…" We dream of creating an enterprise interface for a fortune 100 company that would be the user gateway to everything in their company. We've done extensive and highly successful application development projects for Fortune 200 companies. We've won awards for our work.
You can't quantify the art as readily as you can the science. On the other hand there is no science that, if applied like a recipe for dinner, will actually give you a user interface for a web application.
